Selchie Print is a vision, that began with a little purple book, Beyond the Lemon Tree, in July of last year and its success is set to continue with Aporia, also by Sarah Turton, to be published in October 2009 and long into the future, as readers imaginations are captured by the possibilities offered by the mystery of The Selchie Myth. The tale of the seal which is transformed into humanity, the unconscious awakened, most importantly, the dreams that become reality.

The reality is making beautifully crafted, prepossessing and timeless books.Coming from a family, whose currency exchange has always been voraciously traded reading, the decision was made to dispense with dust jackets, finding they tend to get torn and bashed or soggy in the bath, making the paper wasted. Instead, readers have the option to purchase hardbacks that are covers in themselves with cream pages, a nod to the dyslexics among us, estimated at one in ten of the population with ribbon page dividers to avoid the inevitable cornered pages. To provide the opportunity to buy books that you want to own and not just read at affordable prices for everyone.

Plans for the next year, also include, the addition of paperback editions for those who like to read and eat, on the run, with the continued option for those who want the complete reading experience from the feel of the book in your hands to what is written on the page.

This was very much in mind when Beyond the Lemon Tree was designed and the response to this little treasure book has been gratifying,  with over a hundred small and large chain booksellers stocking it initially and promoting it around the country with readers participating in events and writing to say how much they love this quirky and thought-provoking book.  

With our second book on the way and an established place amongst bookstores in the UK, Selchie Print has carved a unique place in the market.

For Selchie Print, in the future, the aim is to establish, unusual, unique, thinking and ground breaking literature by emerging authors to compile an eclectic and exciting collection of works that blossoms over the next four years, to continue transforming dreams into reality, myths into being.
